45 CASES OF OSTEOTOME SINUS FLOOR ELEVATION IN ATROPHIC MAXILLA USING HA-COATED IMPLANTS WITHOUT BONE GRAFT

Introduction: A sinus membrane elevation by inserting a bone graft has been used as a common technique in the posterior of the maxilla bone with poor volume and density. However, the autograft as the bone graft is occasionally restricted quantitatively for donor bone condition.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate 45 clinical cases implanted in the posterior maxilla using the osteotome sinus floor elevation technique (OSFE) without grafting.

Materials and Methods: 68 HA-coated implants with 6, 8, 10-mm long were inserted into 45 patients using OSFE technique without grafting. After the implantation mobility, gingival index and bone resorption were checked by naked eye, finger, percussion, and panorama X-ray during 3 months to 6 years.

Results: One implant failed before function. 67 implants were functionally loaded and showed no sign of mobility and periimplant disease. No patients exhibited sinus problem during the entire observation period.

Conclusion: The OSFE technique, using HA-coated implants without bone graft, were found to be effective without invasive procedure for the sinus elevation and to produce successful results in the implant treatment of patients with atrophic alveolar ridge of the maxilla.
